Memento Mori Rings
Mourning jewels, referred to as 'memento mori', not only served as daily reminders to the wearers to live a moral life in preparation for the final judgement, but were also worn as a way to express grief and remembrance for a loved one. Symbols such as willows, broken columns, urns, hearts, and lovers knots were all widely understood. Skulls stood for the shortness of life. Symbolic instructions and ciphers had more personal meanings and enhanced the poignancy of the jewels hidden message.
